Future of Cars
Main Idea
In this innovative 45 minute, 10th to 12th-grade students are tasked with designing their own futuristic cars, focusing on sustainability, technology, and user experience. The goal is to foster creativity, technical understanding, and awareness of environmental impacts in the automotive industry.
The session begins with a quick 10-minute introduction to the latest trends in automotive technology, including electric vehicles, autonomous driving, and smart connectivity features. This briefing will inspire students and provide a foundation for their designs.
Following the introduction, students will work to conceptualize their vehicles. They will use AI tools like chatgpt to devise ideas and bring them to life. Each person will consider key aspects such as energy efficiency, the use of eco-friendly materials, innovative safety features, and the overall design aesthetic that appeals to future consumers.
Next they will complete a worksheet on what type of car they made. This lesson not only stimulates creative thinking and practical problem-solving skills but also encourages students to consider the broader implications of their design choices on the environment and society.

Learning Activities
Description
- Introduction (10 minutes)
Teacher: Begin by giving an overview on current and emerging technologies in the automotive industry such as electric engines, autonomous driving, and advanced material use.
Students: Listen and are encouraged to ask questions.
- Designing (25 minutes)
Teacher: Instruct students to create innovative car designs with chatgpt. Encourage students to incorporate sustainable materials, energy efficiency, innovative safety features, and aesthetics in their designs.
Students: Decide on the type of car they want to design (e.g., family car, sports car, utility vehicle). Then use prompts in chatgpt to create an image.
- Wrap-up and Reflection (10 minutes)
Teacher: Tell people to complete a worksheet on what type of car they made. Facilitate a brief discussion to reflect on what they learned and compare designs.
Students: Complete the worksheet then. Discuss what they learned about the intersection of technology, design, and sustainability in automotive engineering and compare designs.
