“A Journey through Greek Art Periods”

Main Idea

The primary aim of this learning activity is to enhance students’ understanding of the evolution of art across different historical periods (Archaic, classical, and Hellenistic periods) in Greek history. By engaging in research and applying machine learning techniques, students will develop critical thinking skills, and a deeper appreciation for cultural heritage. This interdisciplinary approach combines history, art, and technology, fostering a comprehensive learning experience. In addition, students understand the fundamentals of machine learning by training a model to recognize and classify images from the Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic periods of Greek art history.

Key Characteristics







1. Research Gather information about the Archaic, Classical, and Hellenistic periods in Greek art history by visiting the website of the Foundation of the Hellenic World: https://www.ime.gr/chronos/

2.Image Collection Collect representative images from each art period.

3.Visit the Google application https://teachablemachine.withgoogle.com/train/image and train the model to identify images of each period. · Upload Images: Create classes for each art period and upload the corresponding images to each class. · Train the Model: Click on the “Train Model” button. The model will analyze the images and learn to recognize patterns specific to each art period. · Test the Model: After training, test the model using new images to see how accurately it can classify them based on the period.
